Make the Patties
In a large bowl, whisk the egg first if you’re using it. Add the breadcrumbs if using, then mix in the garlic powder, onion, mustard, salt, Worcestershire sauce, pepper, and ground beef.
Stir everything together just until combined. Try not to overwork the meat.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Cover with plastic wrap and chill until you’re ready to cook.
Cooking Methods
Grill Method
Set a grill to medium-high heat. Place the patties on the hot grill and cook for about 5 minutes per side, or until the centers are fully cooked and no pink remains.
Stovetop Method
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for roughly 5 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
Oven Method
Arrange the patties on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F for about 15 minutes. Turn them once around the halfway point, about 8 minutes in.
Assemble the Burgers
Place each cooked patty on a bun and finish with the toppings you like best. Serve warm.
