Ingredients

  • For the Turkey Burgers
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 fresh jalapeño finely minced, seeds removed for less heat
  • 3 ounces pepper jack cheese shredded or finely diced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro or parsley optional
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for cooking
  • For Serving
  • 4 burger buns
  • Extra pepper jack slices optional
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Red onion
  • Pickles
  • Avocado
  • Mayo chipotle mayo, or your favorite burger sauce

Method

  1. Add the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, jalapeño, pepper jack, and herbs to a large bowl.
  2. Mix gently until just combined. Be careful not to overwork the meat or the burgers can turn dense.
  3. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties. Press a small dent into the center of each one so they cook evenly.
  4. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add the olive oil. If grilling outdoors, oil the grates well before cooking.
  5. Cook the patties for about 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until cooked through and golden on the outside. If you want extra cheese on top, add it during the last minute and cover briefly to melt.
  6. Toast the buns if desired. Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, or sauce, then serve hot.
